In these films there is always some crazy person or monster-like character that goes around and slaughters innocent people. Reciproc And Biorace Rotary Systems Health And Social Care Essay Free Essays

The balance between continuing the apical root construction and apical disinfection has been ever a challenge in endodontias peculiarly in curving root canals. To cut down the procedural accidents and the clip required for root canal readying, the usage of Nickel-Titanium rotary instruments was proposed. Each rotary system has different clinical advantages and disadvantages sing their peculiar belongingss. We will write a custom essay sample on Reciproc And Biorace Rotary Systems Health And Social Care Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now The intent of this ex vivo survey was to measure and compare the apical transit induced by the Reciproc and BioRace rotary systems in fixing the mesiobuccal root of the human maxillary grinders. Methodology: The mesiobuccal canals of 60 extracted maxillary grinders with curvature angle between 25-45Es were selected and indiscriminately assigned into two groups ( n=30 ) . The root canal readying was performed by either Reciproc or BioRace rotary systems. A double-digital radiographic technique and AutoCAD package were used to compare the apical transit at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 millimeter from the working length ( WL ) . The distance between the maestro apical traffic circle file and the initial K file in the overlying radiogram was considered as apical transit. An independent t-test was used to compare the groups. P lt ; 0.05 was considered as statistically important. Consequence: There was no incidence of instrument break in any of the instances. Apical transit of the Reciproc group was significantly greater than the BioRace group in all distances ( P lt ; 0.001 ) . The maximal apical transit was at 0.5 millimeter of the WL for Reciproc group ( 0.048 A ± 0.0028 ) and the lower limit was at 5 millimeter from the WL for the BioRace group ( 0.010 A ± 0.0005 ) . In both groups, the apical transit decreased when the distance from the WL increased. Decision: Under the status of this survey, both systems created a little change in original form of the canals, although the BioRace system produced significantly less apical transit than the Reciproc system. Cardinal Wordss: Apical transit, BioRace files, Reciproc files, Root canal readying Introduction: Cleaning and defining of the root canal is a critical stage in endodontic interventions ( 1, 2 ) . During this process, some grades of divergence from the original form of the canals might happen when fixing curved canals with unstained steel manus instruments. These aberrances may hold a negative consequence on the result of endodontic interventions by worsening the efficiency of the disinfection processs and the possible inauspicious consequence on obturation ( ref 22 ) . To get the better of the drawbacks of instruments made of unstained steel metal, Nickel-titanium ( NiTi ) instruments were proposed ( 3 ) . Nowadays, the Numberss of NiTi rotary systems with peculiar belongingss are available. A new endodontic traffic circle file system named Reciproc ( VDW, Munich, Germany ) is introduced to the market. This system is claimed, by the maker, to be capable of determining the root canal systems exhaustively with merely one instrument. Files from this system have been constructed by a new heat-treatment operation from a particular metal called M-Wire NiTi. These single-use files have increased flexibleness and are more immune to cyclic weariness than traditional NiTi wire files. Furthermore, the S-shaped cross-section design of these files has produced two effectual cutting borders ( 4 ) . These honoring characteristics may connote the utile consequence of this system to be used in curving canals. Different size and assorted tapering of the Reciproc files are available as follows: R25 ; tip Size # 25 with apical taper of 8 % ( 08/25 ) , R40 ; tip size # 40 with an apical taper of 6 % ( 06/40 ) , R50 ; tip size # 50 with an apical taper of 5 % ( 05/50 ) . A particular machine- controlled device was introduced for application of these instruments with a mutual gesture. On the other manus, Race traffic circle system ( FKG. Dentaire SA, La choux-de – founds, Switzerland ) , thanks to its particular design, have been addressed by several surveies to efficaciously clean the root canal system with the ability of bring forthing more centered canal form ( 5,6,7,8,9 ) . File of this system have a triangular cross-section design and jumping cutting borders. The BioRace system, with a new set of files, is different from the regular Race instruments with regard to the size, taper, sequence and shank codifications. The maker has claimed that using merely four instruments could accomplish the equal apical readying size ( 10 ) . Measuring the apical transit may be carried out by different techniques but it can be debatable as each technique has its ain restrictions and there is no associating gold standard method for it ( 11 ) . The dual radiographic ace infliction technique antecedently proposed by Maggiore ( ref ) is one of the most efficient, easy-to-use and cost effectual methods in which we can determine the maximal existent curvature of the canal ( 13, 14 ) . By this method, we are able to measure the radiogram taken earlier and after root canal readying to observe the aberrance from the original form of the canals. To the best of our cognition, no survey exists in the literature comparing the apical transit of the Reciproc and BioRace systems. Hence, this ex vivo survey was set up to step and compare the apical transit of these two rotary systems, while fixing the mesiobuccal root of the extracted human grinders. Materials and Methods: Sixty extracted maxillary grinders with mesiobuccal root curvature between 25Es to 45Es and the radius of curvature between 3.5 to 10 millimeters were selected to include in this survey during the undermentioned processs. Access pits were prepared utilizing a a†° 4 unit of ammunition diamond bur ( SS White Burs, Lakewood Inc, USA ) in a high-velocity handpiece and cooled with H2O. The presence of 2nd mesiobuccal canal was assessed utilizing stereomicroscope at 40N†¦ magnification and served as exclusion standards. The WL measuring was done by deducting 1mm from the length the file tip extruded apically when viewed under the microscope. Teeth with similar length were collected for this experiment. Each tooth was fixed in a crystalline plastic box and attached to a goniometer turntable which was stuck into a platform. A # 15 K-file was inserted in the root canal to the WL and several radiographic images were obtained as the turntable was bit by bit rotated. When the file in the root canal appeared directly on a radiographic position, the turntable was turned 90 grades where the maximal curvature of the root canal was seeable. This position was considered as the pre-operative form radiogram and the scenes were recorded as an index for the undermentioned radiogram. This process was performed for each sample. The grade of root curvature and the radius of curvature of the cardinal axis of the K- file were assessed by AutoCAD 2010 ( Autodesk, San Rafael, CA ) . Teeth with complete formed root and the aforesaid standards were selected and included in this survey. The selected samples were indiscriminately assigned into two experimental groups. A Plexiglas gigue was designed for confident standardisation of the experimental status. By this mean, quotable places of the X-ray cone and the detector would be assured during the survey for each sample. The double-digital radiographic technique was used to compare the apical transit in the same manner described in old publications ( 12, 15 ) In Group A, the samples were instrumented with BioRace files ( 08/ 25, 05/15, 04/25, 06/25 ) harmonizing to the industries ‘ instructions by a soft in- and- out gesture. Each instrument was removed from the canal when it reached to the WL and rotated without biting. In Group B, the samples were prepared with a R25 Reciproc file harmonizing to the makers ‘ instructions by a light reciprocating, in- and- out picking gesture. The instruments were removed from the canal after each three batchs to clean the gathered dust in flutes. It is noteworthy that all instruments of both groups were set in a Sirona ENDO 6:1 contra-angle handpiece ( Bensheim, Germany ) attached to an endodontic torque-limited electric motor ( VDW, Ag, Reciproc motor, VDW ) and all the processs were performed by one experient operator. Besides, no statistically important differences were observed between curvature angles and the radius of curvature of the selected root canals for each group by using Student ‘s t trial. In both groups, root canal irrigation was performed by alternate usage of 1 % Na hypochlorite and 17 % EDTA trisodium solution. A glide way was established before readying of the BioRace group merely as the maker of the Reciproc does non urge it. The patency was checked after utilizing each instrument in both groups. The prepared dentitions in each group were put on the constructed radiographic gigue at the once recorded grade of rotary motion. A postoperative radiogram was taken with the maestro apical traffic circle file inserted into the canal to the working length. All digital radiographic images were made by the Schick digital radiogram system ( Schick Technologies, Inc Long Island City, NY, USA ) . The images transferred to AutoCAD 2010 and the initial and concluding radiogram were superimposed. An independent expert, unaware of the survey processs, blindly measured the divergence from the initial K file to the cardinal axis of the maestro apical traffic circle file at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 millimeter from the vertex. The mean and standard divergences were obtained for each group and the Independent-Sample T trial was performed to happen statistically important differences between the two groups. Consequences: No dentition were excluded from the survey and all 60 samples were included in the statistical analysis. There was no incidence of instrument separation in any of the instances. Both groups showed little divergence from the original form of the canal. The apical transit induced by the Reciproc group was significantly greater than the BioRace group in all distances ( P lt ; 0.001 ) . The maximal apical transit was at 0.5 millimeter of the WL for Reciproc group ( 0.048 A ± 0.0028 ) and the lower limit was at 5 millimeter from the WL for the BioRace group ( 0.010 A ± 0. 0005 ) . In both groups the apical transit decreased when the distance from the WL increased. The average values of apical transit for each group are summarized in table 1. Discussion: One of the of import intents of the root canal readying scheme is to organize a bit by bit tapering outgrowth for the root canal while maintaining its original form ( 1 ) . However, some iatrogenic mistakes may happen during the defining of narrow and curving canals. Examples of these bad lucks are canals transit, cubitus or shelf formation and canal obstructor ( 16, 17, 18 ) . By definition described in 2003 by the American Association of the Endodontics apical transit will happen by remotion of the canal wall construction on the exterior of canal curvature. This procedural mistake takes topographic point owing to the leaning of the files to self-return to their original consecutive form during canal readying ( 19 ) . As Weine ( 20 ) stated, one time transit has occurred it is impossible to acquire back to the original canal form, peculiarly in curved canals. In other words, it may take to an hourglass-shaped at the apical terminal of the canal and go forthing septic mush tissue on untasted walls. It besides can take to a shelf or perforation if improper instrumentality continued ( 21 ) . Assorted surveies have demonstrated that NiTi rotary instruments in comparing to stainless steel files, can keep the original form of the canals better ( 23-28 ) . Among rotary systems, several studies have shown that the Race rotary system is capable of maintaining the original morphology of the root canal during instrumentality ( 5-9 ) . Until the clip of this survey, there are limited surveies sing the cleansing efficaciousness and determining ability of Reciproc rotary file system. In an appraisal by Burklein et Al ( 4 ) , the determining ability of Reciproc and WaveOne instruments in curving canals were compared with Mtwo and protaper rotary system. Their consequences confirmed that all tried instruments were safe and able to maintain the original curvature of the root canal. Similar findings confirmed once more in the following survey of these research workers ( Burklein 2012 ) . In another study which was performed in rosin simulated curved canals by Yoo A ; Cho ( ref ) revea led that Reciproc and WaveOne instruments had good defining ability and could keep the original canal curvature better than the Protaper A ; Profile systems. In the current survey we evaluated the apical transit of a reciprocating single-file system alleged Reciproc with BioRace system, as a control, during readying of the mesiobuccal root of the extracted maxillary grinders. Numerous methods have been proposed to measure and compare the form of the root canals pre- and post-instrumentation. Radiographic imagination technique was selected for this survey since no physical interfering was required. Although, this method has some drawbacks like inability to detect 3-dimensional position and cross-section of the root canals ( 29 ) . For the radiographic rating of the apical transit, both the mesiodistal and buccolingual positions can be used, albeit they might non detect the existent transit. To get the better of this issue and show the extreme existent curvature of the canal, we took several radiographic projections in order to obtain the most approximative mentality of the canal. This method was besides antecedently used by Iqbal et Al ( 12 ) . The mesiobuccal roots of the extracted human maxillary grinders were preferred for our survey since they normally present highlighted curvatures and have mesiodistal flattening ( 30 ) . Roots with 2nd mesiobuccal canals were non employed as they might hold assorted anatomical constellations. To maintain the status of our survey similar to clinical pattern, the Crowns of the tooth were non resected as they might bring forth force per unit area on the files during root canal readying ( 31 ) . In this survey, extracted dentitions were used alternatively of rosin blocks. Resin stuffs have different mechanical belongingss in comparing to human dentition. As their hardness, compaction and snap are lower than dentin, the readying dislocations such as transit may happen with less frequence ( 32 ) . Furthermore, the possible created heat during instrumentality in rosin blocks may supple the rosin stuffs which may paste to the cutting blades ( 33 ) . To go through over any possible consequence of the air force per unit area on the torsion and velocity, electric torque-controlled motors, alternatively of air-driven systems, was employed in this survey ( 34, 35 ) . Irrigation was carried out by alternate utilizing of 1 % Na hypochlorite and 17 % EDTA trisodium solutions, as proposed by Peters et Al ( 36 ) and Hartmann et Al ( 37 ) . This irrigation method avoids smear layer compression generated during instrumentality, therefore suppressing the WL loss and minimising the likeliness of transit. Although the mutual gesture can be served as the promotion of the balanced-force gesture technique, which has intended for manus readying of badly curved canals ( 38 ) , but our consequences revealed that the Reciproc files were significantly produced more transit that BioRace group. This determination might be attributed to the superior flexibleness of the Race files or might be ascribed by the presence of crisp film editing borders in Reciproc files. It is noteworthy that the greater flexibleness of the Race files can be credited to their particular design and the sections on their on the job surface. In an probe by Rangel et Al ( 39 ) on determining ability of Race rotary instruments in fake root canals revealed that they were able to quickly fix the fake canals with small alterations in WL and few aberrances in canal constellation. These findings were in conformity with our consequences. Based on our findings, it may be speculated that the centered apical readying of a root canal may depends on the file design and its flexibleness or the instrumentality technique as besides stated by Bergmans et Al ( 40 ) . Wu et Al ( ref ) demonstrated that the apical transit more than 0.3 millimeter will negatively impact the root canal seal. In present survey, the apical transit values induced by either Reciproc or BioRace system were lower than the old published studies ( ref ) . Furthermore, it seems that these degrees of transit might non be within the clinical importance in which the quality of a root canal would be affected. Further surveies with different methodological analysiss should be performed to look into more on public presentation of endodontic instruments within the root canal and to measure the transit of the new instruments and techniques. In decision, we found that the BioRace system produced significantly less apical transit than the Reciproc system and retained the original form of the canal better. Miles Davis The Birth of Cool free essay sample

The series of compositions this roof produced over the next two years touched off the cool Jazz movement. It also Inspired dozens of musicians that would follow. The Birth of the Cool Is unique In that the Individual tracks created In 1948-1949, were not assembled and released In a collective album until the late sasss. And though its been over sixty years since the collective release of the Birth of the Cool album, the tracks are still acclaimed as some of the greatest Jazz recordings ever made. Howard Reich, an author with the Chicago Tribune, states that Part of the allure of Birth of the Cool surely owes to the gifts of the Instrumentalists (Howard AE). I have to agree with this reviewers statement. The musicians that Davis amassed to help produce the works of the Birth of the Cool was a truly remarkable ensemble. They formed a fluidly functioning group, using elements of both the big band and bebop styles- but fully embraced neither. We will write a custom essay sample on Miles Davis: The Birth of Cool or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Davits expressive, anti-virtuoso trumpet was a wonderful accompaniment to Gerry Mulligans baritone sax.Other musicians rotating wealth the note Included: French horn players, Junior Collins, Sandy Goldstein and Gunter Schuler; drummer Max Roach; pianists John Lewis, Kenny Clarke and AY Hag: bassists AY Mimicking and Joe Sultan; Lee Zionist on alto saxophone; and trombonists J. J. Johnson, Mike Sherwin and Kaki Winding. Singer Kenny Haggard also complemented one track. Nevertheless, It was the Innovative arrangements, Influenced by classical music techniques, which made the Birth of the Cool album a success and marked a major development In post-bebop Jazz. These pioneering compositions were brilliantly created by a collective writing group, with Evans and Gerry Mulligan (Evans protog) eloping to write much of the material. The group kept things short and concise, keeping the focus on the tones and tunes of the tracks. This virtuosity led to elegant, relaxing, stylish mood music as the end result. This was the very thing that came to define West Coast or cool Jazz. The repertoire would further go on to chart new territory In big band music, eventually leading to the equal-orchestral music produced by Davis and Evans in the late sasss and early sass. There are twelve tracks that make up the compilation of the Birth of the Cool album. These 12 tracks can be further broken into four groups: The first group imprisoning of two fast tempo pieces; the next grouping comprising of five upbeat pieces; the third grouping of three bluesy feel tracks; and, lastly, the two slow tempo harmonies. 2) Bud is short in duration, but is very fast and energetic- Miles, Zionist and Winding all deliver great solo parts. 1) Jeer the quintessence of cool Jazz wherein Miles and Gerry show off their soloing abilities playing with precision and confidence. ) Deception is a very up- beat piece incorporating the ride cymbals and walking bass with a kind of tension- building theme sequence. It has a great solo from Miles. 3) Godchild another up- eat piece has an exciting swing style ambiance. All the lower instruments contribute to it, making it a fun, playful track. Miles and Winding offer nice solos as well. 4) Rocker is an up-beat, yet, piano-less piece that utilizes the ride cymbals. Mulligan creates some soft dissonances as the voices move, but it happens so fast that it isnt disconcerting to the listener. ) Rouge is a very fun piece with string bass and a distinct piano solo. 1) Venus De Mill has a fairly laid-back Latin feel. This tune was Just nice to sit back and listen to with wonderful melody and harmony. 2) Publicity is a stressful arrangement that seems vaster than nine musicians. Mulligan starts with a great sax solo and Miles leads in with the group and then heads into playing a fine solo. 3) Israel is very powerful in structure and composition. This song blends the traditional blues with modern harmony (some of the chords are dissonant clusters) and counterpoint. There is a trumpet solo by Davis. 1) Moon Dreams is a ballad played with a slow solemnity that makes it a classic. The ensemble playing of this piece is beautiful. 2) Kenny Highroads vocal feature titled Darn That Dream. This piece has a slow tempo, accompanied by a piano laying in the background throughout the song. In the middle composition is an outstanding solo by Miles. It is hard to pick a favorite track in such a brilliant production. However, one particular piece- Move- hangs in my mind as it has the unique feature of paired instrumentation. In Move melody is provided with the pairing of alto saxophone and trumpet; the baritone saxophone and tuba supply counterpoint; and the trombone and French horn deliver harmonies. Move reflects the bands chemistry and the arrangement is very innovative. It is an arrangement that could naturally carry solos and Miles, Zionist and Roach deliver them well. Another mentionable piece is Bud. Though this album is commonly viewed as a departure from traditional bop, a few of the tracks, to include Bud do feature tunes that are considered close to the bop style. Bud takes the classic bebop tune and plays it cool. Bud also has the band bookbinding solos by Davis, Mulligan, Zionist, and Winding, which is similar to a bebop head arrangement. Throughout time, Birth of Cool has had a few detractors whove dismissed it as boring and bland. However, in my research, the majority of listeners have really been taken by what Davis and his note accomplished. Howard Reich wrote: Birth explosive, sass bebop to sass cool (Howard A;E).

Brl Hardy

How do you account for BRL Hardy’s remarkable post-merger success? Prior to the BRL and Hardy merger both companies were rivals with diverse views of the wine industry. Due to the varying views both companies had different organizational structures and approaches. Hardy was a family owned business focused on producing great wine. In 1853 Thomas Hardy acquired land near, Adelaide which is in South Australia. Thomas used the land to plant vines, by 1857 he produced his first vintage, and two hogsheads were exported to England.By 1882 hardy won his first international gold medal at Bordeaux. At the time of Thomas’ death in 1912, Hardy was the largest winemaker in Australia. Hardy became known for award-winning, quality wines, and the company focused on global external brand awareness. BRL on the other hand focused on commercial exporting, the cooperative was referred to as â€Å"the oil refinery of the wine industry†, and the company was more concerned with quantity rather than quality. BRL specialized in fortified, bulk, and value wines and it was the second largest crush in Australia. Both BRL and Hardy were respected in the wine market, unfortunately both companies were suffering financial losses and the merger of both companies was the best alternative. According to an ex-BRL manager, â€Å"we had access to fruit, funds, and disciplines management; Hardy brought marketing expertise, brands and winemaking know-how†. The above mentioned characteristics added to the success of the BRL Hardy merger. The newly formed company focused on client retention, branding and cost savings.Steve Miller, CEO of the newly merged company focused on his first task, the financial situation. Since both companies performed poorly the previous year, Miller wanted to protect its share of the bulk cask business and concentrate on branded bottle sales growth. Another aspect that added to the success of the merger was Miller’s awareness of the differences in culture and management style. Miller’s objective was to create a decentralized approach while keeping management accountable. With the delegation of small tasks, Miller wanted to create a â€Å"have a go† mentality. The objective was to have the company try 20 things and getting 80% right instead of doing two big things that needed to be 100% right. Determined to â€Å"earn his stripes† David Woods was able to integrate the two sales teams which resulted in impressive results. Both domestic bottle market share and profitability increased significantly in the first two years of BRLH’s operation. What is the source of the tension between Stephen Davies and Christopher Carson? How effectively has Steve Millar handled their differences? There are a few sources that contributed to the tension between Davies and Carson; there were conflicts in leadership, po wer struggles, and organizational dysfunctions. The BRL dominated headquarters management supported delegation, but only for those that â€Å"earned their stripes†, even though Carson had a good track record, his past performance he was treated as a new comer by the new management structure. Within the Hardy built European company there were questions about whether their bulk-wine-oriented BRL colleagues understood international marketing.Due to the differences in views there was a feeling of â€Å"Us vs. Them† (UK Subsidiary vs. Headquarters). Carson did not think Davies and the Headquarters were credible and legitimate when it came to marketing. The largest dispute came from marketing strategies, specifically branding and labeling issues. Carson felt that the image of the Hardy brands eroded in the United Kingdom and they needed to be relabeled, repositioned and re-launched. There was difficulty convincing the home office of his strategy, since Australia controlled all aspects of the brand Carson felt like he was on a tight leash.Initially Millar handled the tension between Carson and Davies effectively, Millar acknowledged the expertise and potential the two managers brought to the company; his intention was to get them to collaborate. Unfortunately I think Millar made some errors in how he handled the delicate situation. There was no clear reporting structure, Davies reported directly to Millar, on the other hand Carson reported to Millar regarding the U. K. Company’s profit performance, and reported to Davies for marketing and branding strategies. In essence, Carson had direct access to Davies boss.Millar’s approach was flawed because he did not want to be pulled into resolving disputes, but hoped for negotiation. Hoping for negotiation is not a solution, it’s like putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound, Millar was focused on growth and he did not encourage Carson and Davies to work things out. Should Millar approve Carson’s proposal to launch â€Å"D’Istinto†? Why or why not? Carson wanted to launch a new wine D’istinto because he felt it would have a unique image built around Mediterranean lifestyle; passionate, warm, romantic and relaxed.Carson wanted to target everyday wine consumers that enjoyed wine, but were not knowledgeable about it; he also knew that women represented 60% of the supermarket wine buyers. With D’istinto buyers would be encouraged to write to receive free recipes. Carson wanted to create a database of wine and food loving consumers that would receive futur e promotions through the mail. The D’istinto line would help build BRLH Europe in size, impact and reputation. In addition to the positive impact on BRLH’s financials, D’istinto would help Carson become more influential.Millar was not convinced that launching D’istinto was a good move for BRLH, there was too much risk involved with competing on the same market with Stamps and Nottage Hill. I think Millar should allow Carson to launch D’istinto since Stamps and Nottage Hill were not doing well in the markets. A new sophisticated Italian wine would be the key in elevating the BRLH brand. What recommendation would you make to the organization concerning the conflicting proposals for â€Å"Kelly’s Revenge† and â€Å"Banrock Station†? What would you decide to do as Carson? As Millar? After struggling to manage things on his own, Carson hired an Australian marketing manager, he needed someone to come into the organization and take charge and get things done. The ne w hire, Paul Browne was an eight year veteran eager to capitalize on an opportunity to create a Hardy brand at the ? 3. 99 price point, but be able to promote it at ? 3. 49. Browne felt the market was ready for a fun brand that would appeal to a younger market. He came up with Kelly’s Revenge, with the support of the U. K. ales management Browne pursued the new product, creating colorful labels and preparing a detailed marketing plan. During this time BRLH in Australia was also creating a new product targeted at a similar price point. The Banrock Station brand was launched in Australia in 1996, its motto was â€Å"Good Earth, Fine Wine†. Banrock Station became an immediate success in Australia and New Zealand. With this success it was difficult for Browne to find a place for Kelly’s Revenge since both wines had the same price point in the U.K. My recommendation would be to produce Banrock Station since it was doing well in the market and Kelly’s Revenge was not well received when surveyed by consumers. In business there are tough decisions that need to be made, but I think the wise choice is going with the product that shows better potential. I think Carson and Millar were back to the dilemma they had regarding D’istinto. How would you compare the management style of Millar to Shackleton and Schulman?Millar, Shackleton, and Schulman were able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals that worked for them. I think Schulman and Shackleton were similar in their leadership style because they were not selfish when it came to the success of their team. I think Shackleton was a bit stubborn and this caused him to get in his own way. Overall they possess great leadership skills which helped them to be successful in different ways. Even though Shackleton has passed, his legacy lives on because he did not allow rejection or an iceberg to stop him from his endeavor. The same goes for Schulman she could have played the victim, but she decided to have a voice and inspired others to be great. Millar on the other hand could have learned a few things from Schulman and Shackleton; I think he tried to separate himself from situations too much. He was focused on profits and he needed to put more emphasis on making sure teams meshed well. One example was the dissention between Carson and Davies. Millar could have been a better leader in handling the situation, putting each person in their respective â€Å"corner† does not solve the problem.

Brief a case Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Brief a case - Assignment Example She appealed to the Supreme Court California, which reversed the sentence. The legal question presented to the Supreme Court was if it was known that a certain group of defendants was negligent but not clear specifically who was directly responsible, can a plaintiff sue the main companies involved as per the market share statistics? The Supreme Court determined that the plaintiff could recover against the manufacturers that are already known with respect to the market share concept. The Supreme Court added that for such a case to suffice, the plaintiff must present a number of the main distributors. However, if the defendant could prove that they were not responsible for the harm caused, then they could be dismissed from the case. The reasoning used here was that the defendants should not be let off simply because the plaintiff does not have a way of identifying those responsible. In addition, in such sensitive cases as medication, the consumer is deemed helpless to protect themselves from any harm that may come from the drugs that they take. The defendant s would also be in a better position to bear the cost of an injury that results from manufacturing of a defective drug. This was a trademark infringement case where Coca-Cola Company was seeking to enjoin Koke Company of America from continuing to use the word ‘Koke’ in their products. On the defense, Koke maintained that using Coca-Cola name in its brands the Coca-Cola Company represented usage of cocaine in its products. From the side of the Coca-Cola Company, it should retain the usage of this name. This came as a result of increased sales by the Coca-Cola Company implying that this company did not want to share any work which sounded similar to the one it used (Clarkson et al. 157). The case was ruled against Coca-Cola Company, which appealed to the U.S Supreme Court. The legal question presented before

Personal consumption journal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Personal consumption journal - Essay Example Prior to my entering the mini mart, I knew I wanted a Gatorade. Evidently, neither did I happen to stumble across it inside the store nor did I hear somebody whisper to me on the benefits of drinking Gatorade after a movie trailer. Shopping experience: I really didn’t take much time in the store I just the Gatorade paid for it and left, if you even ask me how many people were in there or the shirt color of the attendant I wouldn’t tell. Reason for purchase: Where I work, I am quite limited to what I can buy to eat depending on the day. On days when I am alone in the office, I cannot leave the office premises to buy food. In this case therefore, I am limited to restaurants that deliver fast foods. This has proven to be extremely expensive; therefore do it regularly. The meal consisted of chow mien, and 2 entrees with soup. I choose this because it was the most appropriate for the money I had at the moment. I could also eat half of the meal then half later. Shopping experience: It happened that I had to pronounce the meal to the waitress who seemed amused and didn’t understand why. She tried to pronounce the name correctly in Chinese accent and understood the reason for her amusement when I said it correctly she smiled and said good, the conversation had turned fun and I was just laughing as she taught me how to pronounce. Not a bad shopping experience. Reason for purchase: I really needed the face wash. I have always loved the Nivea brand for its high quality products. I was more inclined to purchasing the face wash as it was cheaper by 1$ and I thought I would save for other reasons especially buying lunch. I would have selected Olay Essentials Refreshing Face Wash which is cheaper and went at 3.9$, but Nivea fulfills my need. Shopping experience: The attendants were great they were willing to explain about the magic of the different soaps on one’s skin. I happened to spend more

Analysis Soft Drink Essay Example for Free

Analysis Soft Drink Essay 1Analysis of the U. S. soft drink industry, based on the competitive forces model of Michael Porter. In the soft drink industry the entry of new competitors depends on the barriers to entry that are present, and also the reaction from existing competitors that the entrant can expect. I will now analyze the six major sources of barriers to entry the soft drink industry. Economies of scale deter entry by forcing the entrant to come in at large scale and risk strong reaction from existing firms or come in at a small scale and accept a cost disadvantage. If a company wants to decline its unit costs of their product, they will have to produce more to lower the cost. The more you produce, the lower the costs. In the soft drink industry establishing firms have brand identification and customer loyalties. The brand name can have differences. This is a high barrier to enter. Entrants are forced to spend a lot to overcome existing customer loyalties. The capital requirements within this industry are very high. Production, distribution and advertising are a must to compete with the industry leaders like coca cola and Pepsi. So if a new The aluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles are pretty much dependant on the soft drink industry to survive in the business. This makes suppliers to have little power over the soft drink industry. The access to distribution channels is a high barrier because the most successful soft drink companies are aggressively spending their distribution channels and buying full ownership of bottling plants. Supermarkets are at present the largest channels in the U. S. and there the competition is very high. Switching costs is also a barrier to entry this business. Switching costs by changing from one supplier to the other may happened. Also employee training, new equipment, testing new technology. This things are common in this industry. This are barriers for new entrants.

McDonalds, what does it mean to you? Essay -- essays research papers

Marketing Management 3-4:30 Current Issues Paper McDonald’s, What Does It Mean to You?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  McDonald’s Corporation has held a prominent position in the fast-food market for much of its existence. A person would be hard pressed to find consumers who would not readily recognize the famous golden arches, as the company has expanded its market globally. However, as global consumer tastes shift to a more heath-conscious public which cares less about â€Å"super sizing† and more about â€Å"slenderizing† the popular burger chain has been experiencing a drop in sales. McDonald’s strategy for its globalization plan has included the concept of localizing their product (to a degree) for an international market; for example, local managers in British versions of the restaurant are able to make their own decisions that pertain to adapting to the current market. A difficult challenge for the corporation’s marketing team is how to reposition this wildly successful brand in a stagnant British market.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  McDonald’s, which has operated in London successfully for thirty years, has recently become aware of dropping sales which have been attributed to the country’s growing health concerns. The plan the British marketing team has developed includes sending the famous â€Å"golden arches† on hiatus while a new campaign will attempt to reposition the fast-food chain as a healthy choice for consumers. The theory is interesting, due to McDonald’s strong consu...

Great Expectations Essay

Charles Dickens is best known as a writer of novels, many of which are read today and regularly used in stage productions, on television and in the cinema. He was also a journalist, he used his stories to get across what he felt were important messages.  Although he tried to get his message across he wanted his work to be entertaining. In so doing, he created some of the most well remembered characters of English literature, such as Mr Pickwick, Oliver Twist and Ebenezer Scrooge. Dickens wrote about Victorian life and particularly Victorian life in London. Dickens campaigned for things he believed in like the welfare and education of children. He addressed the public in public speakings and through his writings.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Great Expectations†Ã‚  Chapter one  At the start of â€Å"Great Expectations† Charles Dickens introduces us to a boy called â€Å"Pip†. This name is explained in the novels very first sentence and stated that this is the name he is commonly called by in the second.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"My father’s family name being Pirrip and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip. Pip goes onto explain that he never saw his mother or father and so the audience straight away feels very sorry for this young boy. â€Å"As I never saw my father or my mother,†Ã‚  The setting in the first chapter is a graveyard with Pip looking at his father and mother’s tombstones. Pip must be quite imaginative as he uses the shape of the letters on his father’s tombstone to create a mental picture of what he and his mother was like. â€Å"The shape of the letters on my father’s, gave me an odd idea that he was a square, stout, dark man, with curly black hair. From the character and turn of the inscription, ‘ Also Georgina Wife of the Above ‘, I drew a childish conclusion that my mother was freckled and sickly.† We go on to learn that he also had five brothers that must of all died at an early age.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"To five little stone lozenges, each about a foot and a half long, which were arranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine-who gave up trying to get a living exceedingly early in that universal struggle†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Ã‚  Throughout this novel the narrator is a young Pip and this is to make the reader feel empathy for the character for the whole of the novel. It also means there is a childish view on things and a lack of understanding. For example in the graveyard he can’t really understand why his father, mother and five brothers were dead and he was still alive. Although the reader feels sad because of this Pip is not that sad as he can’t understand the situation fully. When the focus switches to the scenery and Pip starts to describe the churchyard and its view. Pip begins to cry and almost out of nowhere â€Å"Hold your noise!† Cried a terrible voice, as a man started up from among the graves at he side of the church porch. â€Å"Keep still, you little devil, or I’ll cut your throat!†Ã‚  This is the introduction of Magwitch an escaped convict from a nearby jail. In Charles Dickens days capital punishment was enforced in the United Kingdom and conditions in jails were very poor an so Magwitch would have been n a terrible condition. First impressions of Magwitch are that he is an evil man for the obvious reason of him being a convict. He has no sympathy for others. â€Å"A fearful man, all in coarse grey, with a great iron on his leg.† The iron is the giveaway that he is an escaped convict. The iron is like a clamp that will have maybe been connected to a ball and chain.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"A man with no hat, and with broken shoes, with an old rag tied round his head.† This shows the terrible condition that he is in.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"A man who had been soaked in water, and smothered in mud and lamed by stones, and cut by flints, and stung by nettles, and torn by briars; who limped, and shivered, and glared and growled; and those teeth chattered in his head as he seized me by the chin.† These things are what make me think he has escaped.  Magwitch is also quite a violent man, Pip is only a young boy and he feels it necessary to grab him by the throat and threaten him. He bullies a young child into getting things for him.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"After darkly looking at his leg and at me several times, he came closer to my tombstone, took me both arms, tilted me back as far as he could hold me; so that his eyes looked most powerfully into mine, and mine looked most helplessly up into his.†Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"You know what a file is?†Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"And you know what wittles is?†

Land That Entry Level Job in 3 Easy Steps

Land That Entry Level Job in 3 Easy Steps Sandy Donovan over at the Career One Stop blog has 3 great suggestions for job hunters feeling shut out at the gates. How do you make up for a lack of experience, a job gap, or a stagnant hiring climate in your dream field?   1. Don’t Send Your Resume to EveryoneI know it’s tempting when you’re not getting so much as a nibble, but trying to apply for every job you might be remotely qualified for or could conceivably enjoy is a losing proposition. Your resume should be tailored to every job you apply for, and if you’re sending it out 50 times a day, you’re not taking the time to ensure you’re a great match making a great impression. This doesn’t mean never send it out, it  means be smart about sending it out.  2. Network With People in Your FieldEven if your resume doesn’t represent what a great employee you could be- maybe your previous experience isn’t a good match or you had time away from the workforce- you proba bly know someone who appreciates your potential. And they probably know others in their field who would benefit from a terrific recommended candidate like you.Talk to literally everyone: use social media, use LinkedIn, and pick up the phone to schedule informational interviews or even quick chats over coffee. Find people who have the kind of job you want, and ask them to tell you what helped them get where they are. Get your name and your best resume in front of as many people in your field as possible.  3. Research Your IndustryDon’t expect your personal connections to do all the work for you- it’s your responsibility to explore all your options. Look into professional associations and certifications for your field, know what to expect with your salary potential, and identify local business and prospective clients. Know your industry and know yourself, so that when you finally get the call, you can interview as a well-informed, astute candidate.

Bahai Religion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Bahai Religion - Essay Example Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ is second to Christianity in its geographical distribution (Ibid.), however, unlike Christianity, Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ does not view itself as an independent religion or a static belief system. In order to understanding the Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ Faith it is important to understand the principle of â€Å"progressive revelation,† which is a common principal throughout Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s beliefs, ethics, and practices. It is the idea that the spiritual development of human civilization is constantly advancing and that the central beliefs of any given religion were based on Messages brought by a prophet (Adam, Buddah, Jesus, Mohammed, etc.) that were appropriate to the spiritual needs of the people in that place and time (Kourosh 445). This paper will provide an overview of the general tenets of the Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ belief system, its ethics, and its ritual practices. Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ beliefs revolve around the teachings of Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢u’llà ¡h. His teachings exist in the form of written manuscripts, known as the Sacred Texts to Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ s. The three central teachings of the Faith include the Oneness of God, Oneness of Religion, and Oneness of Mankind (Kourosh 445). These teachings each exhibit the principle of â€Å"progressive revelation,† mentioned above. Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢u’llà ¡h taught that despite the diversity of religions and ways of calling God around the world, that there is only one Supreme Being in the world, worshipped by all who worship one God (Kourosh 445). They view God as an elevated being who can never be fully grasped by humans, because he is elevated above creation (Ibid.). Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s devote themselves to a never-ending quest for spiritual discovery and growth (BIC). They believe that humans have an immortal soul that is born at conception and that physical death does not indicate the end of individual life, because the soul continues in the spiritual world (Kourosh 446). The Bahà ¡Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ãƒ Faith views physical life as a sort of training ground to prepare the soul for

Progressivism, Bonus Army and the Civil Rights Movement Essay

Progressivism, Bonus Army and the Civil Rights Movement - Essay Example With its reform agenda, the progressivism movement was aimed at achieving efficiency in all areas of society as a response to changes made by modernization. It was determined to be aimed at addressing ideas, impulses, and major issues stemming from modernized changes in the American society. Its ideologies centered on democracy, proper municipal administration, elimination of governmental corruption, proper education for everyone, and many others. Under the theme of democracy, there was also instigation of the women suffrage movement and elimination of corruption by black voters (Roark et al. 234-235). In the municipal administration, there was creation of proper laws and legislation to govern cities as well as the creation of a bureaucratic administration system leading to the creation of a democratic municipal administration. To the progressives, corruption was a source of inefficiency and waste leading to formation of laws to curb it. The progressives also worked hard to improve a nd expand public and private education in America at all levels (Roark et al. 465). For a very long time now, America has been operating efficiently in several sectors of the economy as well as government as a result of this movement. The bonus army was a protest that was launched by the World War I veterans 1932 demanding payment of their bonuses after the congress had voted to give them these bonuses for their services in the war in 1924. However, even though they asked for these bonuses to be released to them in 1932, they were meant to be released in 1945 (McPherson 134). They marched into Washington D.C. to demand for immediate release of their bonuses. When the senate went to vote for the bill requiring the veterans to be paid their bonuses, it turned out that the outcome was not successful as the senate defeated the bill by 62 to 18 votes. This showed that the veterans were not going to be paid their bonuses. The veterans were dispatched by the state police where two of their members were shot dead and later the intervention of the army which led to most of them being seriously injured (O’Brien 78). In a nutshell, this protest did not yield any fruits for the propagators. On the other hand, looking into the American Civil Rights Movement, almost a similar situation comes out but with slight success realized. It was a movement that relied on biblical connotations to fight racial segregation. This was under the leadership of Martin Luther King Junior who was a black clergyman. This was a movement that was instigated after the slavery period had ended and sought to end the massive discriminatory practices that had been instigated against the black people for a very long time. Most of the propagators were jailed and some killed in the quest for a society that is deeply rooted in equality. As a result of these struggles, laws were enacted propagating equality for all Americans. However, this was only in theory but practically, many black Americans hav e suffered discrimination for a continued period of time (Roark et al. 562). In conclusion, the progressive movemen

Role Of Women In Things Fall Apart English Literature Essay

Role Of Women In Things Fall Apart English Literature Essay In telling an African story, it is impossible to do so without mentioning the women who take part in many of the activities in a society. This is why different stories bring out women and their roles in the society although the stories may not be talking about a woman as the main character. Things fall apart is no different in bringing out the role of the women in a traditional African setting. Women play pivotal roles in Educational, Religious and Social care in the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. In Things fall apart, women are featured as the main childrens educators. They do these by telling them stories, teaching them the ethics of socializing with other people and good behavior especially to the girl child, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦children sat around their mothers cooking fire telling storiesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦, (Achebe 25). The children are taught good values and morals by their parents and in this case, their mothers, who encourage them to develop social values and good interaction skills. The woman was regarded as an inferior object in the society but this did not turn her down from performing her societal roles especially that of being the educator of the children. The upbringing of a child is what determines what the child will be in the future. In the Ibo community, the rearing of a child was solely the role of the woman who was supposed to make sure that the child was well conversant with the customs and rules of the society. The knowledge of the societal norms was all of importance to the mother as she needed to educate the children about them. This was to avoid situations where the child would be in trouble for dishonoring the highly regarded goddesses or leaders of the community which would be a disgrace to the family especially the father who would put the blame on the mother and possibly beat her. Therefore, in a society which is dominated by men, the woman had to be very careful about the reputation the man would have in the society if certain unfortunate things happened may be from the behavior of the children or herself which is the reason why mother education to the children was important. The womans reputation depended on that of t he man which was important for the woman to protect. The women were also involved in religious matters and this can be presented in various ways. The women belonged to the religion of Ibo. They regularly played the part of the priestess. In the early days, a woman by the name of Chika is seen as a priestess. She is the former priestess of the oracle during Unokas time. This woman was very powerful and respected by the people (Achebe 17). Thus she portrays the role of women in religious matters. Currently, Chielo is the priestess who is also the hills and caves oracle, She was the priestess of Agbala, the Oracle of the Hills and the caves, (Achebe 35). In other words, women are seen taking a great part in religion in the community, for instance, as priestesses. The woman is seen to have a lot of religious power. This is evident when Chielo, a religious woman, orders and threatens Okonkwo to surrender himself and his daughter to Agbala who wished to see her. After she warns him, Okonkwo gives in to the idea. Women in this case are seen as powerful spiritual leaders who can warn and order their followers in order to do the right thing that is expected of them by the religion and in this case in the society of Ibo. Ani was the goddess of the earth. She was responsible for making sure that the society observed the right conduct and morals. Ani worked closely with the dead clan members who had their bodies committed to the earth (Achebe 36). The community also believed that they had to honor the earth goddess for blessings in order to have their yam crops grow. This was done by the members of the clan who had to strictly observe the peace week before the harvests (Achebe 30). The woman is seen to have such great spiritual power, honor and respect which are beneficial to the society and which must be respected in order for something good to happen like plenty harvests. The clan members are greatly worried about having such little harvests when the peace of the earth goddess, Ani, is broken by Okonkwo when he battered his wife. Wife battering was not allowed on the peace week (Achebe 30). The women were also involved in solving problems of a social nature. The mother acts as the comfort not only to children but also to other men who have problems. The workforce consisted of a lot of women. They performed many strenuous tasks that were only separated for them and that men could not perform. Painting of Egwugwus house was done by women (84).They were also supposed to entertain the children at all times and make them grow in an artistic manner (EmenyoÃÅ' ²nu and Uko 178). The woman is seen as a powerful object that is able to encourage people when feeling low and demotivated. When the men face some social problems like neglect, the woman acts to encourage them. Thus, it is said that the mother is a superior being who does not abandon her children in all situations in life, for instance Okonkwo who is rejected after killing the son of Ezeudu. It is believed that a male child is his fathers only when life seems to be flowing well but when in trouble, it his mothers. This is better depicted by the uncle of Okonkwo who then persuades him to go back to his mother as she will accept him at all situations. Despite all this the mother does not judge or discriminate them. The woman is considered to be the forgiving and understanding being who can never reject or look down upon anyone and who will provide help whenever she can. This is a very important role. There are two marriages that are talked about that the writer uses them to show the meaning of having a woman in the Igbo society. They are the makers of a home, the prospecting mothers, and people who help men in certain tasks. In any man-woman relationship, children are the most important and valuable gifts that they can be given which is not different in this community where the woman is considered as an important part of the family bearing process (EmenyoÃÅ' ²nu and Uko 176). Although in an indirect manner, the importance of a woman and in this case, the first wife in the Ibo society is portrayed in a celebration held at the Obi of Nwakibie whereby the other wives are not allowed to drink wine before her arrival (Achebe 22). The first wife is thus shown special respect and recognition in the Ibo community. The name Agbala in the Ibo community means a woman or a title less man. In his early childhood, Okonkwo felt disrespected when called the name Agbala as the peers were teasing him and more so his father who was seen as a weakling. This really tormented him and made him become obsessed with consideration of social status above everything else. Okonkwo struggled so much never to be associated with anything weak as anything weak was likened to a woman and vice versa. Nwoye who is the son of Okonkwo from his first wife is also insulted by being viewed as woman-like just because Okonkwo is reminded of his father when he sees him. In this context we see the woman being looked down upon by the whole Ibo community as a weak being. The men who are not courageous and violent are also seen to be as weak as women meaning that the societys perception of women is that of a person who is not strong and is weak (Whittaker and Msiska 64). The woman is generally looked down upon. We see Okonkwo being punished for disrupting the peace of the earth goddess but not for buttering his wife. To them wife buttery is not a crime as according to the society, the woman is only there to give birth, to perform house chores and cook for the husband and also to be beaten. This is just how cruel the man is (Whittaker and Msiska 65). The story was written in the times when the only important being in the society was seen as the man and not the woman. The children who turned out to be disgraceful to the society were all demeaned and likened to a woman. To add to this, the woman would be blamed for poor upbringing of the children as that was solely considered as her role (Okpewho 34). The story however shows some respect for few female figures that seem to be very significant to the society, for instance, the women spiritual leaders. The respect shown to them is not because they are women but because the society demands that they be respected for their important roles in divine intervention. The women also show strong leadership, power and prowess in their work (Okoye 45). Although the woman is not the main character in this story, it is clear that she plays a big role and cannot be ignored when talking about the story. The roles discussed above show clearly that the woman plays a pivotal role in Educational, Religious and Social issues.

Penn State Crew :: Rowing Regattas Sports Athletics Essays

Penn State Crew Penn State Crew is a completely student run organization dedicated towards preparing its members towards rowing competitions, called regattas. Since its inception in 1994, the team has seen periods of immense growth. No longer is the day when Penn State Crew is struggling to compete for dead last. Instead, we are bringing home the hardware as evidenced by our very successful fall and winter seasons (for complete results, please visit the team's homepage.) The team just recently purchased two eight-man Vespoli shells and a new boathouse is currently in the design phase and is planned on being constructed at the team's home lake, Bald Eagle Lake, located about thirty plus minutes from the University Park campus. Penn State Crew is very fortunate because it is one of a few club sports here at Penn State that has actual, paid, highly qualified coaches who bring an immense rowing knowledge base to the team. We are looking forward to this Spring 2003 season as one filled with much pr omise, lofty expectations and phenomenal competition with some of the nation's premier rowing squads. Please follow our progress all season at the team's homepage, http://www.clubs.psu.edu/psucrew/. The Reason We Do This... A fierce shriek pierces the serene darkness of night. Snoring is still heard from the football players who live next door as a figure stirs in the lofted bed. Groggily, without glasses or contacts, a calloused hand reaches out towards the annoying sound that all non-morning people have come to hate. Suddenly complete, utter silence is restored as the alarm is shut off. A yawn and swing of the legs soon lands bare feet on the cold floor of a dorm room in Hartranft Hall at Penn State. Eyes are rubbed and open and shut five or six times rather rapidly as they try and focus on the iridescent green digits that stare back. â€Å"4:37† reads the alarm clock and radio contraption designed with an alarm loud enough to wake Satan from deep slumber in the bowels of hell. Without any warning, a whirlwind of action commences and within fifteen minutes, the rower emerges from the shadows and is on his way to another Penn State Crew practice. Craziness. Sheer craziness is how the athletes on the crew team are most commonly described by anyone at all who resides on this campus.

Beginning Bodybuilding and Tips on Staying Motivated

The sport of bodybuilding began in the late 1940’s, when Joe Weider began his noble endeavor for human physique revolution that would soon be a bodybuilding empire. He envisioned bodybuilding as the sport that will epitomize a man’s masculinity. Fitness, Nutrition, and Motivation were the foundation for the sport of bodybuilding. One must consider the sport of bodybuilding not as a mere habit but a chance to be the epitome of human physique. Every bodybuilder has a mindset that no ordinary man has. A bodybuilder doesn’t perceive every workout as a routine but as a part of his well-being.Every workout that a bodybuilder does is like breathing for him. It is crucial for him. For one to begin his bodybuilding aspiration, he should find a nearby gym which he can engage himself into various bodybuilding techniques. A neophyte bodybuilder has to be independent inside the gym. Everything should be self-learned yet it won’t hurt to ask an initial training program f rom a trainer. From there on, you should be on your own inside the gym. Being independent is one of your motivations to succeed in the sport of bodybuilding. Each body part you train is crucial because it complements all your other workouts. For instance, you must train your triceps in order to achieve a good lift on chest workouts. Always bear in mind that your program is integrated. One cannot always train for one body part most of the time. Train all body parts and you will achieve progress. Furthermore, bodybuilding supplements will enhance your performance and progress throughout your bodybuilding career. One must know what supplement to take to complement his desired physique. If your program is bulking up, you should have a Whey Protein, Creatine, and Nitric Oxide for you to achieve your goal of getting enormous muscles.Protein is a staple in bulking up, so your body should be getting enough protein than the usual. This is crucial for your body to be in an anabolic state. It m eans that even if you are not training, your muscles are spontaneously growing. Remember that your muscles are â€Å"eating† as well. On the other hand, Fat Burner supplements are only to be used whenever a bodybuilder intends to prepare for a bodybuilding competition. A bodybuilder is hell-bent on getting â€Å"ripped† for him to showcase his muscle definition. He does this by reducing water intake, as well as assuming a â€Å"low carbohydrate and high protein† diet..Most bodybuilders take a respite in taking supplements for them to detoxify. It is important to know when to use such supplements. Always remember that supplements are for the enhancement of your physique. Yet it must not be your source of motivation. Here are five methods on being consistent and motivated as well: 1. Always prioritize fitness among other endeavors. Bodybuilding should be the core of your well-being no matter what crisis you encounter. 2. Consider bodybuilding as a physiological ma tter. Just like breathing, It’s a matter that you do because you have to and not because you want to.3. Manage your time. Bodybuilding should be prioritized yet moderated. Consider other careers that will enhance your bodybuilding aspirations. 4. Nutrition should always matter. Eat like its your last meal. Enough is never enough. Eat six meals a day. A combination of light and heavy meals, in order to maintain your body in an anabolic state. 5. Be Aggressive. Unleash the warrior instinct in you. Always be independent inside the gym. Bear in mind that whenever you are going to workout, it’s always a war inside the gym and your ultimate adversary is yourself. Always outlast your previous performance.

Marketing Diary

ZAGREB SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT Academic year 2010. /2011. Written by: Tanja Igic Marketing diary Course: Principles of marketing Zagreb, 2010. Topic 1: Competition Uniqueness as an absolute advantage Source: http://www. fashionunited. com/news/leads/custo-and-desigual-in-legal-war-200823070855 (08. 10. 2010. ) The topic I chose as the first one is the legal war between two famous Spanish fashion brands- Custo Barcelona and Desigual. The reason why it is the first entry is because I am very interested in fashion and Desigual is my favourite brand. This summer I went to Spain and I realized that there is a brand very similar to Desigual, both in design and prices. This was the first time that I have heard for Custo Barcelona. Unlike Desigual, Custo is not an internationally known and famous brand. Oppositely, in Spain, the competition between the two is very high. I can even compare it with two major soccer clubs –Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. In most cases, if you pre fer Desigual, you would never buy from Custo and vice versa. Shock for Desigual lovers came in 2008, when Custo Barcelona filed a plagiarism lawsuit against Desigual.Custo accused Desigual for copying its mixtures of patchwork and materials and also for following their shop openings and contacting Custo’s distributors to market its products. No one ever wrote about the end of this lawsuit and that is why I cannot give my comment on the final decision, but I can comment on Custo’s decision about filing Desigual. I consider it as a desperate action of trying to get more of a target market. What they didn’t consider is that Desigual lovers, after this affair, sticked even more with Desigual.Unfortunately for Custo, Desigual is still existing, not only on the Spanish market, but worldwide, and it is stronger than ever. Topic 2: Controversial marketing Shock advertising Source: http://press. benettongroup. com/ben_en/about/campaigns/history/ (02. 11. 2010. ) It was f ew years ago when I heard for Benetton’s and Sisley’s controversial advertisements for the first time. Since then, I have been checking out their new ads every now and then, because they keep shocking me every time I see them. Recently, there has been a new billboard by Sisley on the streets of Zagreb. The picture is representing a young women on the floor with lots of cucumbers around her and one in her mouth. They just keep shocking, but why? Probably because controversial marketing is known to have an impact on drawing attention to the brand. When searching about the reasons why Benetton is doing such commercials, I found out that they want to raise the awareness about global problems and concerns among their global customers. They have officially divided their advertising campaigns in three separate phases and the first one started in 1986, when Benetton began cooperation with Oliviero Toscani. The phases where named: cycle of difference, cycle of reality and cycle o f free speech and the right to express it. Each released campaign, such as the one against capital punishment, resulted in widespread protest against the company, from the customers as well as governments. Usually, it ended up with lots of free publicity and an increase in sales, but after the ‘death row’ campaign, they decided to stop controversial advertising. They faced the fact that they have repeated using controversial subjects for too long and that the impact on the customers was rather negative. Topic 3: TV advertisingEffects of television food advertising on eating behavior Source: http://www. yale. edu/acmelab/articles/Harris_Bargh_Brownell_Health_Psych. pdf (21. 11. 2010. ) Topic 4: Market impact teams in Coca Cola HBC Does it really increase sales? Few weeks ago, I have received an e-mail offering a student internship in Coca Cola HBC in the selling department. It seemed very interesting from my point of view and that’s why I decided to sign up for do ing the internship. I had been invited for an interview and the week after I have started my internship in Coca Cola. It lasted for a week only.First day of my internship, we all gathered together and were explained what are we going to do in the next five days. Firstly, I was disappointed, but now, after I have finished those tough five days, I am really glad because of that experience. Market impact teams are teams of two or three people, one student and two Coca Cola employees usually, who are going around coffee bars and shops and are trying to have an impact on buying behavior by ordering shelves, cleaning fridges, putting promo material all over the place, thus creating a brand awareness. MIT is organized two times a year, before Christmas and before Easter. In Coca Cola, they are very proud of this actions, but I have always been asking myself, does it really increase sales? The answer was given to me by a young manager, who I was working with. He told me that in the short run and in general, it does not increase sales, but it creates a brand awareness which is really important for every product and company. It wasn’t an answer that satisfied me. I went further by asking: â€Å"But Coca Cola is a well known brand, actually, probably the best known brand in the world. Why are you still trying to raise brand awareness? † That’s when I got an excellent answer, which I will never forget. He told me: â€Å"Yes, everyone knows about Coca Cola, but sometimes you just have to remind people that your product still exists! † That is probably the best explanation of advertising I have ever heard. This experience was unforgettable for me. Source: my student internship ( (02. 12. 2010. ) Topic 5: Packaging and price Is the price, package or smell of a perfume what matters the most? Going into a perfumery and having a glance at all of the beautiful and colorful perfumes, makes me buy them all. After approaching the most beautiful and attract ive one, with the amazing desire of having it, you smell it and amazingly, it smells really bad. What are you doing? If you have money, probably you end up buying it anyways. If you don’t, you wouldn’t probably buy the better smelling one either. This question arises in my head every time I see millions of amazingly looking small packages of perfumes. The other fact that I have realized is that perfumes for male population are not even comparable to female ones. Is the package of the perfume what really drives our purchase behavior when buying perfumes? Some researches show that associating a beautiful design and color of a perfume with the smell makes the perfume more attractive, which increases the purchase. But what if a perfume is a great looking, with average smell and high price? That makes him even more attractive. It is well know that expensive perfumes are luxury goods. Higher price will make them more desirable because when seeing a beautiful package and a high price, we are creating an image of it before even smelling it. Not only for perfumes, this phenomenon happens with other luxury things as well. Human nature is just not strong enough to resist a beautiful package. Topic 6: Brand image / Business ethics Procter and Gamble testing on animals Source: http://www. pandgkills. om/main. html (05. 11. 2010. ) I have been avoiding Procter and Gamble’s products ever since I’ve heard that they are testing one animals. I am a huge animal lover and for me, animal killing is almost as cruel as human. The Procter and Gamble’s testing on animals was also a topic of my speech on the second year of college and that is when I did a little research on this topic. Not only that Procter and Gamble is one of the most famous brands in the world, but it is also one of the richest companies. It’s cruel method of testing can be easily replaced by an alternative.Despite this fact, P&G refuses to stop testing on animals, even though more reliable and humane alternatives do exist. By testing on animals, not only that they are creating a bad brand image and are representing a company’s unethical behavior, but they are also losing a lots of customers each day. Still, it is not important for them. Their earnings are probably still so high, that they don’t have to take care about those 100 people giving up from their brand each day. I am one of them and I can tell for myself that I would never buy from Procter and Gamble again, neither from the other brands testing on animals.Despite their global popularity, the brand image they are creating is not as good as it could be if they spent the huge amount of money they have on behaving more ethically and switching to a less cruel ways of testing their products. Topic 7: Design Ugly, comfortable and expansive-perfect combination I have tried hard to resist buying UGG boots this and last winter, and fortunately, I have succeeded. Different story is with my C rocs slippers. In fact, I have 3 pairs and I just love them. Those two brands I choose because they are well known for being ugly and expensive, but extraordinarily comfortable.I have never tried UGG boots myself but from other people’s stories they seem extremely warm and cosy. Since I have been seeing them every day, they are not even so ugly for me anymore. Crocs slippers neither. From my own experience, I can say that Crocs slippers are so comfortable that when you wear them once, you just don’t want to take them off. They are perfect choice in lots of situations and places, such as home, beach or long way walking. From these two examples, we can see that recently, people changed their points of view a bit.Of course, people still take care about how they look but sometimes, the way they feel in their clothes and shoes leaves a stronger impression than the clothes itself. UGG Australia and Crocs are two perfect examples for this statement and after writing this diar y I will probably give up from my decision to never wear UGG boots and go buy a pair for myself. Topic 8: Business ethics Lying about price reductions Last winter, I was in shopping for a jacket. While walking along Ilica, I entered a Miss Sixty store to see if they have something interesting for me.I came across a really nice, but for me, very expensive jacket. On the price tag, it said that it costed 3000 kunas but it is 50% off, so it costs ‘only’ 1500 kunas. The jacket was from the winter before and that is why the price was reduced. I never got over that jacket and that’s why I still remember the story. This year I was walking along Ilica again and went in the Miss Sixty store to see the new interior of the store. The very same jacket from the last winter, that was actually from the winter before, was still on the hanger. The thing that surprised me the most was the price on the price tag.It said that the jacket costed 4500 kunas in the beginning, but the pr ice was reduced to 3700 kunas firstly and now, it is even more reduced, and costs ‘only’ 3000 kunas. That really shocked me. After telling this story to other people, I heard very similar experiences but with other stores and brands. It usually happens that, if a product is not sold on the discount the year that it has been produced, the price next year appears to be the same, even though they say it is on sale. From my own experience and point of view, words like ‘sale’ or ‘discounts’ or ‘price reduction’ are very influential on human brain and thus, buying behavior.Sometimes you just can’t let other people buy that great shirt or a jacket that is on sale and you end up buying it, even though you might not need it or its price is still high. Experts dealing with selling products and services are very aware of the basic facts in buying behavior and human nature. They know that only a word ‘sale’ will increase sa les even if there is no sale at all. What bothers me is that I am probably falling for that trick almost every day but I do not realize it. As well as experts know how to sell, we should know what we want to buy and we should never follow the words, because sometimes they are just misleading.Topic 9: Brand loyalty Waiting up to 6 months to get on the waiting list – Hermes Birkin bag http://www. dailymail. co. uk/femail/article-1184169/Bag-lady-Victoria-Beckhams-100-strong-Birkin-bag-collection-thats-worth-1-5m. html (05. 12. 2010. ) Since I am desperately waiting to get my degree and have a chance to go for a Master programme in Milan and have my dreams come true, I have focused on a fashion industry and happenings from this field, to be up to date. That’s is how I came across the article about very famous Hermes Birkin bags.Everyone knows how expensive and popular they are but I would never expect that people would wait up to 6 months to only get on a waiting list. On e of their most loyal customers is famous Victoria Beckham, who has a huge collection of their bags, worth about 1. 5 million pounds. This shows a great brand loyalty they have, among the celebrities but the rich part of population also. Birkin bag is a luxury, rather then a need and from that point of view we can say that each person who buys it is loyal to the brand. If it wasn’t for loyalty and the status symbol, no one would ever buy a million pounds worth handbag.Topic 10: Color psychology and marketing Do colors really impact consumer behavior? http://www. syncrat. com/articles/color-psychology-in-marketing (27. 11. 2010. ) On my way to new Arena center, whose logo is by the way, also in red color, I have given some attention to the advertisements around me. I have noticed that most logos are in the red color. I didn’t know if it was for a reason and that’s why I checked it on the internet as soon as I came home. There really is an amazing relation between the two and that’s why firms pay a lot of attention when designing a logo or making a commercial. It is said that red color is a symbol of aggression and passion and it is used to motivate an individual to take action or convey a warning. It is also believed that is stimulates appetite. Oppositely to aggressive red color, green color is way more relaxed, symbolising growth and wealth. It is often used in commercials for natural products. It calms the mind and creates a feeling of happiness. Black color, an example of a neutral color, is well know symbol for elegance, power and sadness, as well. It is said that black color shouldn’t be used a lot when advertising. It can cause sadness and depression. On the contrary, white color symbolises cleanliness, purity and spirituality. It is used a lot in advertising but mostly as a background color, because it makes other colors seem more vivid and bold. All of these examples show that my question about the relation between colo rs and logos wasn’t foolish at all. When seeing advertisements and commercials, but buying also, people do not consider a color as something that influences their buying behavior, but researchers and marketing specialists are more than aware of this great marketing weapon. ———————- IN LEGAL WAR [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] I have never been a big fan of television, in fact, I have been avoiding watching TV and trying to do something else instead, since I have started high school. When I was 15 I went to United States for a year as an exchange student. Living there, surrounded with lots of overweight people, junk food and starting to have weight problems myself, I have realized what a damaging effect on human health a food can cause. Since my host mother was a nurse, she was taking a lot of care about mine and my host sister's healthy diet.I have never heard about the topic before, becuase the problem is not so spre ad in our country, but my mom was always talking about negative effects of television food advertising on eating behavior. If it wasn't for her, I would probably never realize the shocking effects of TV on the eating behavior. All of us know how unhealthy is to eat in front of the TV. It is because our brain isn't getting signals fast enough and we don't stop eating as we would stop if we were concentrated only on eating.Effect which is related to this one is the effect of food advertising on TV and our eating and purchasing behavior. Nowadays, obesity is the fastest growing cause of disease and death in America, caused by reductions in physical activity and overconsumption of unhealty food. A lot of people consider that unhealthy messages communicated to children through food advertising is a leading cause of unhealthy consumption. It is also confirmed that food advertising leads to greater preferences and purcahse of the products advertised. What we can conclude from these facts is that we should try to avoid eating in front of TV or eat whatever is advertised on TV at that moment. When going to the store we should be led by the healthiness of a product purchased and not its package and great TV commercial. [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] [pic] SALE!!!
